Description
I couldn't help but bring to our little shop the book that has captivated me the most to this day, the book I consult several times a week, the Zero Challenge Book by the dear Eunice Maia, they are undoubtedly my biggest inspiration. I hope it inspires you as much as it inspires me!
"This is the story of my (imperfect) journey of waste reduction. For a long time, my life was marked by excessive, irresponsible consumerism, devoid of any environmental awareness.
I owe the mission of
Maria Granel and the beautiful community that formed around that mission the lessons I share in this book. Inspired by two women,
Bea Johnson and
Ana Pêgo, who honored me by writing the preface to this book, I began my journey. Small steps, small gestures, with immediate impact.
Besides a first-person testimony, this is above all a practical guide, which includes tips, recipes, practical suggestions (featuring the beautiful illustrations by
Helena Loução with several "step-by-step" tutorials and wonderful photographs by
Daniela Sousa (
Lance Collective) and
Gustavo Figueiredo) and shows how to make the change. It is a real account of difficulties, frustrations and (eco)anxieties, but also of small victories, celebrated with much hope and optimism.
We start inside the house (first part), going through all the rooms, then we move to the collective scale, outside the house, to spread the message to the community. Thus, here are gathered several ways to reduce waste when shopping, caring for pets, and even organizing events, such as weddings, birthday parties, or Christmas celebrations.
And because everything I wrote I learned in and with this community, I couldn't miss the references to the heartfelt projects and the people who light up the way and show what it means to work with purpose. There is also a gallery of national and international (z)heroes. I had the privilege of counting on the contribution of
Rodrigo Sabatini, who wrote about the
#zerowaste movement and the utopia made real of
#lixozero cities.
This book is launched in 2020, at a decisive moment, as we face a very serious climate crisis. Reducing the waste we generate and rethinking how we consume are two of the urgent measures we need to adopt. It's time to act.
The revolution begins here, within us. We are together!Part of the proceeds will go to two institutions created by women whose work I support and admire:
Reflorestar Portugal and
Ocean Alive.
Thank you very much!
We are together! Eunice"
