Frequently Asked Questions
What exactly is Ghee and how is it made?
Ghee butter is a form of clarified butter, obtained by slowly heating traditional butter until the water evaporates and the milk solids separate. The result is a pure, golden, and aromatic fat. This process not only intensifies the flavour but also removes components that can cause digestive discomfort. It is an ancient technique, widely used in culinary traditions such as Ayurveda, and today valued by those seeking a more conscious and functional diet.
What's the difference between regular butter and clarified butter (Ghee)?
The main difference lies in the composition and how the body digests it. Regular butter contains water, lactose, and milk proteins, while Ghee undergoes a process that eliminates these elements. This makes clarified butter more heat-stable and easier to digest for many people. Additionally, Ghee has a deeper, slightly toasted flavor that enriches dishes without needing large quantities. For those who value quality and simplicity, it is a cleaner and more versatile choice.
Can I use Ghee for high-temperature cooking without losing nutrients?
Yes, and it is precisely one of its greatest advantages. Ghee has a high smoke point, meaning it can withstand high temperatures without burning or releasing unwanted compounds. Unlike other fats, it remains stable during cooking, better preserving the properties of food. If you usually sauté, grill, or bake, it is a safe and efficient alternative that does not compromise flavour or nutritional quality.
Is ghee a healthy option for everyday use?
It always depends on the overall balance of your diet, but yes, Ghee can be an excellent addition to your daily routine. It's a natural, lactose-free fat, rich in fatty acids that can support energy and satiety. At the same time, because it's more concentrated, you don't need to use large quantities to achieve flavor and texture. For those looking to reduce processed foods and opt for purer ingredients, Ghee easily fits into a balanced and conscious routine.
